After being asked for years to post video tutorials, I finally did it! During this shelter in place, I wanted a creative outlet to stay connected. Finding ways to encourage others that might have similar beauty challenges during this time, I am happy to be able to assist y'all! So I present, the first of many videos! Fixing Root Color TemporarilyThe reason I am presenting this is because I personally didn’t like the root color spray by itself, nor do I like the root touch up kits. I find the touch up kits pricey and not as pigmented or dense of color, for my taste. Also, self dying kits at home are tricky and you can really damage your already colored hair for future appointments. And who wants to spend more money to fix something that expensive when you can do this!
Click HERE to watch the video on IGTV. Full breakdown and links of what I used, you can find below. I only needed 2 products to help me get the desired effect! First, I used MAC Eyeshadow in Mystic (**discontinued), but if you have dyed hair darker than your roots, any pigmented eyeshadow that matches your hair color will work. Using a sponge, I generously applied the color to my roots. You can use as much color in as many places as you see fit, to get the coverage you want. Second, I used L'Oréal Magic Root Color Spray, $10.99. Using the spray, I literally sprayed enough to balance out the eyeshadow coverage, creating a thicker and more believable color. If your eyeshadow alone gives you the color coverage needed, you only need to use hairspray to seal it in, (seal = to keep color in place and possibly wear the next day, or until your next shampoo). I am using the two products to help get my desired color effect. On my scalp, (I do not have an oily scalp) this coverage lasts a few days with minimal touchups for me. If you are blonde, hiding darker roots, you can find: blonde, platinum, white, as well as silver and gold, (if you want to have fun with it, as I explained in the video). Enjoy the tutorial... please let me know what videos you want to see next! **You can find your desired eyeshadow color in eyeshadows from products such as, Huda Beauty and other similar brands.

The most commonly asked questions I receive are about great skincare and makeup setting sprays. Look no further! These tried and true products are in my professional kit, as well as my personal arsenal. Let's start with eye cream! If you are over 35, and you want your under eye area to appear firmer, brighter and diminish lines; Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream, $64 A rich and restorative eye cream featuring a brightening combination of eight peptides, five forms of vitamin C, and cucumber extract for firmer, stronger-looking skin around the eye area. This product is free of gluten, fragrance, essential oil, silicone, and irritants. It is vegan and cruelty-free. Drunk Elephant is a supporter of IEF (International Elephant Foundation) and is cruelty-free. Would you like a workhorse product that helps your blackheads, pores, breakouts, and controls excess oil? Caudalie Vinopure Salicylic Acid Pore Minimizing Serum, $49 Formulated with salicylic acid, this ultra-light gel serum purifies pores, zaps blemishes, and purges excess oil, blackheads, and bacteria. Caudalie’s natural salicylic acid (a BHA, or beta hydroxy acid) is clean, powerful, and oil soluble, which allows it to penetrate pores, targeting the most stubborn pimples caused by bacteria and dead skin. While the salicylic acid works hard to flush out excess oil and clarify clogged pores, rosewater works to your enhance glow and hydrate skin. The formula is further enriched with antioxidant grape seed polyphenols to protect the skin and prevent the oil inside your pores from oxidizing, or turning black, which is essentially a blackhead. A complex of noncomedogenic essential oils provides antiseptic benefits to calm the skin and keep it clear, leaving it smooth and soft. Powerful yet soothing, this serum is safe for sensitive skin and is recommended for combination to oily skin, as well as those with hormonal breakouts. For years I have been dedicated to MAC paint tube and paint pot primers. But after a multitude of artists told me to try the Too Faced Shadow Insurance, I am blown away at how wonderful it works with my oily eyelids. I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. It is AMAZING!!! I worked a 12 hour day, I had zero creasing and my shadow was perfectly in place. I also have a couple of stubborn dry patches that it soothed out perfectly. Before you do your makeup, if you aren't already using this product, you should. From Sephora's website: Shadow Insurance locks down eyeshadows, intensifying color to ensure waterproof, crease- , and fade-proof coverage for up to 24 hours. The ultra-lightweight, colorless formula glides effortlessly onto lids, leaving a smooth, even canvas for budge-proof shadow application. Formulated without: Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates. Too Faced - Shadow Insurance, $20 Along with that, I had to try a few foundation types since my Marc Jacobs Genius Gel is being reformulated and is completely sold out. And my concealer, well let's just say I have been through them all it seems. I was just not satisfied. I was poking around Nordstrom and walked around playing with brands. Finally speaking with a beauty rep from Yves Saint Laurent and by playing with their products, I found my new favorites! I have been wearing the Touche Eclat Le Teint - Radiance Awakening Foundation SPF 22. It feels like satin going on and really lightweight. The coverage is gorgeous with a hint of glow, perfect for my skin in the colder winter months. From Sephora's website: Touche Éclat Le Teint Radiance Awakening Foundation is enriched with stimulating Ruscus Extract, an anti-fatigue formula that energizes skin by stimulating micro-circulation and targeting dullness to instantly improve the look your skin’s brightness and luminosity, while the Vitamin E protects against free radicals. Formulated with SPF 22 to provide sun protection, it leaves a weightless finish while offering eight hours of a refreshed, radiant look. Yves Saint Laurent - Touche Éclat Le Teint Radiance Awakening Foundation, $58 For concealer, I have been going between Chanel, Tarte, Nars and Urban Decay. One product is heavy, one was the lightest shade and too dark, one had little coverage, and one oxidized. Low and behold, I love this darn Yves Saint Laurent, All Hours Concealer. It is light feeling with a silky texture that conceals and glides on flawlessly. From Sephora's website: Instantly blur and erase imperfections including dark circles, bags, redness, hyper-pigmentation, broken capillaries, age spots, and discoloration. This advanced 16-hour formula won’t cake, crease, or fade nor will it accentuate the look of fine lines and wrinkles. The highly concentrated, flexible pigments move with you to provide a highly workable and blendable texture that stands up to makeup meltdowns and resists fading, heat, humidity, and touch. The ultra-smooth, creamy matte finish looks just-applied all day. No touch-ups required. Formulated without: Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates. Yves Saint Laurent - All Hour Concealer, $34 Hope you all are having a wonderful holiday week, and be sure to get those makeup steals and deals on black friday!
Brows: I love finding new brow products! And under $10, who isn't excited!!! My first favorite is: Maybelline Eye Studio Brow Define + Fill Duo, $6.99 This product is wonderful! I love having the versatility of a powder and micro liner in one product. It holds well, the pigment is beautiful! I really live this beauty steal! The second brow product is: NYX Cosmetics Micro Brow Pencil, $9.99 It is another amazing steal! Along with trying myself, I actually put two colors in my kit, to try it out. So far I am happy with the color and wearability. Enjoy this beauty steal! And let me know about your under $10 products. Until next time. <3 Max Factor's U.S. relaunchMax Factor is one of THE leading brands with decades of innovation and inventions, to amazing artistry and product history, and a bevy of starlet actresses he created looks for. After migrating to the US in 1914, he originally started selling eyeshadows and eyebrow pencils in Los Angeles in 1916. He is the FATHER OF MAKEUP, he actually coined the words "Make-Up". If you know me, you know I have been collecting vintage makeup products since 1996. I am a HUGE fan of his to say the least. Not to mention in the early 2000's I found that Max Factor Pan Stick foundation was THE product of drag queens, with it's amazing application and coverage, (I continued to have a few in my kit until they were expired). I also swore by their mascara, the 2000 calorie Max Factor, pre and post "X" launch. Then, in the mid 2000's they left the U.S. market. I was devastated. For the relaunch, the AMAZING makeup artist Pat McGrath, has joined forces with Max Factor to relaunch into the U.S. I was beside myself with excitement. Not to mention nervous it would all be sold out, considering I received the info a week after announcement. I ran to Walgreens (it was an exclusive product to that drug store) and purchased 3 out of 4 products. Max Factor X U.S. Capsule Collection::
Masterpiece Max Mascara, $10.99 Masterpiece High Precision Liquid Eyeliner, $10.99 Colour Elixir Lipstick in 2 shades, Simply Nude & Maroon Dust Above is my purchase, I BOUGHT IT. I only get gratis (which equals free product when I credit a recognized magazine for a makeup I use). This was not one of those times. I used all three products on a shoot. The mascara I used then gave to the model, since I wanted to try out their brush. It was pretty awesome coverage, and the brush seemed to reach alot of lashes with one stroke. It stayed smudge-proof throughout the look changes. And model stated it felt really good against her lash line. I will purchase that again. The eyeliner is a felt tipped "marker brush" which is great for at home application of a "cat eye", and the color payoff is gorgeous. However, unless I ruin the liner, there was no sanitary way to re-use that product. So I gave that to my model as well. The lipstick, I bought in Simply Nude. I should have read the description, it explains that it is a moisturizing lipstick, and colorful. I naively expected full color pigment. For me, the moisturizing effect left it too glossy for me to use again, and the color payoff was not impressive. It streaked over her lips. I tried to fix the streak, and it looked worse and overly glossy. So I removed and added a different product. (le sigh..... insert sad face here). In the end, spending $33 before tax, isn't worth my time. I was disappointed. I love you Max Factor, but as a Professional Makeup Artist, I will not be using these products. In my personal life, maybe I will by the mascara again for myself. The eyeliner, no I have products that I like better. For lipstick, nope. I am hoping to get some beautiful images from my shoot. All in all, I will watch for more product launches by Max Factor. Here is a behind the scenes peek that I look with my iphone. Enjoy! Until next time, my pretties. |
